Location: Yellowstone Prong at Graveyard Fields
“Spending Time” Graveyard Fields displaying color already. I caught a break and received foggy and cloudy weather to shoot the waterfall, and I was very thankful for it!
Camera: Canon 5D MKII
Lens: EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM
Focal Length: 28
ISO: 100
Shutter: 3.2 sec
Aperture: f/18
Filters: Variable Neutral Density Filter at 8 stops & Circular polarizer
Exposure: Manual
How I Got This Shot: After shooting the lower section I made my way up the trail a bit and traversed out on to the upper section through the side and walked out onto the huge boulders. I settled my tripod and camera and began to shoot using my variable neutral density filter. I love this thing, although a bit pricy, they work great because you only need one. You dial (turn) it to change the setting to stop out the amount of light you need. I also used a circular polarizer to cut out the amount of reflection coming off the water and it helps to saturate colors. If you are interested in learning more about this, you should join my upcoming waterfall workshop at Dry Falls OCT 12. See my facebook page for details.
The color is already present at graveyard fields. It usually turns a brownish redish color. I normally don’t see to many bright colors here and it is usually the first to turn. So if you are interested, I suggest going within the next several weeks for sure. Be safe – have fun! DS
