This is one of my favorite locations on the Blue Ridge because it provides an easterly and westerly view. Sunrise and sunset and moonrise and sunset.

How I Got This Shot: Facing east at the Waterrock Knob overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Haywood County, N.C. just before daylight. I arrived during darkness and shot a few of the night sky before the sun began to rise. 99.9 % of the time I use a tripod and a remote shutter release. I try and find a nice foreground and in this case I wanted the road in the background so this photo would be easily recognizable. I wanted the foreground and background in sharp focus and I wanted the sky to be dynamic so 3 frames at f22 ( although f9 to f11 would do the same) 0, +3 , -3. correctly exposed 3 stops overexposed and 3 stops under exposed processed in Adobe Camera Raw and combined in Photomatix Pro.
