How I Got This Shot: I stood right near the edge of the parking lot and framed the lake in landscape orientation as well as portrait orientation. I decided on a landscape because it captured the autumn colors on the left and right of the image. It also did a great job of showing the fog rolling over the lake in contrast to the beautiful blue reflection. No tripod was necessary for this job.

I have been wanting to explore the Grandfather Mountain area for a long time. I found a weekend with a new moon and a clear forecast, and made the trip. I already knew the general locations where I wanted to shoot. Conditions couldn’t of worked out better for these photos.

How I Got This Shot: Nothing really special about this shot technical wise. I used a Lee Graduated Neutral Density filter to help reign in that bright sky. I slid the filter down a little more than needed to darken the top most part of the frame, ensuring the eye stays where I want it. Other than that, it’s pretty much a standard landscape.
