Sharp Top is accessed by a strenuous 1.5-mile hike that ends with spectacular 360-degree views of the Peaks of Otter area; the Piedmont to the east; the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Shenandoah Valley, and the Alleghany Mountains to the west.

How I Got This Shot: To frame this shot, I stood facing the mountain range (which could not been seen due to the thick fog) making sure to include the lonely duck in my frame. The wind was not blowing and I chose to not use a long exposure due to the light reflecting from the fog, therefore I did not to use a tripod.

In the valley formed by Sharp Top, Flat Top, and Harkening Hill is a lodge and restaurant, visitor center, campground, picnic area and historic farm. In addition, the area is almost totally surrounded by the Jefferson National Forest, which only adds to its appeal as a destination for Parkway visitors.

How I Got This Shot: I took several photos to create this panorama and then used Lightroom cc to stitch them together. It was right at sunrise, early and the most beautiful time of day for photography. During the summer, the mountains are usually uniformly green for most of the time except when the sun shines on them. Then there is this effect of a two toned mountain that I love. And the sky was subtle with that beautiful sunrise light and a few clouds. I never get tired of the Peaks.

How I Got This Shot: One of my favorite spots to catch the Milky Way has always been Peaks of Otter Lodge, Bedford county Virginia, off the Blue Ridge Parkway… Sharp top Mt always makes for the perfect backdrop and with a little planning you can line up the Milky Way perfect every time… I use a app called TPE ” The Photographers Ephemeris” you can plan out shots right down to the min, check it out sometime http://photoephemeris.com/tpe-34-for-ios-night-mode. How I Got This Shot: After two days of camping in the rain and fog, I was woken up by the sunlight on our last day and ran down to the restaurant got down on one knee and went for the shot! It was breath taking.
