How I Got This Shot: Used a tripod with an ND8 filter. Was very sunny so could not get longer exposure, but the end result was pleasing with some processing using LightRoom to pop the colors and expose the shadow areas better. Taken at the upper fall overlook outside the fence.

Linville Falls is a beautiful series of dramatic falls that drop to a deep gorge, accessed by a trail lined with rare virgin stands of white pine and hemlock. The area around the Falls is one of the few places in these mountains where the Rosebay, Catawba, and Carolina Rhododendron grow side by side. A campground and picnic area along the Linville River is among the most popular on the Parkway.

Fields of Sunshine ~ Beauty is everywhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway! We were cruising past the Linville Falls turn off when we found this field of gold. It was too pretty to pass up.

This image of Linville Falls was taken from the gorge which is my personal favorite view of the falls. The trail down to into the gorge is rated strenuous but it’s only 0.8 mile long and well maintained so it’s not too difficult, just a little steep.
