How I Got This Shot: I found this really nice patch of Rosebay Rhododendron blooming in late July up in the higher elevations of the parkway near Waterrock Knob. I went back a couple to times for sunset, and this evening the sun poked out for just a few seconds behind the clouds to put on this beautiful show. I tried to compose the image for the fir tree to point to the sun, with the Rhododendron framing the bottom of the image.

How I Got This Shot: While looking for wildflowers to photograph, I discovered the group of Turks Cap Lilies. The Black Swallowtail butterflies were enjoying the nectar from the Turks Caps. I just setup with a 70-200mm lens dialed in to 200mm, so as to not disturb the butterflies. It worked! They were more interested in getting fed than by my presence with a camera!

Devil’s Courthouse is a rough and rocky summit with a devilish appearance. There are many folklore tales from the Cherokee to early mountain settlers that says the devil holds court in a cave within the mountain. There is a trail from the parking area to the summit with an inspiring panoramic view into the distant landscapes.
