Price Lake is a part of Julian Price Memorial Park, a 4,200-acre area of rolling mountain land on the central section of the Parkway. It has a campground and picnic area, as well as several of the Parkway’s best trails.

Location: Price Park – Blue Ridge Parkway, Milepost 297
Just got back from a trip to Blowing Rock, NC and the Blue Ridge Parkway! I was struggling throughout the day because many places I wanted to shoot at were closed due to the government shut down. It was almost time to drive back home, but I decided to stop at Price Lake to watch the sunset. I must say, God provided an AWESOME show!!! It shows me that I need to learn patients!

How I Got This Shot: I arrived at Price Lake and started scouting for an area to setup. I found that the best place was just past the bridge, heading away from the parking lot, and shooting over the railing. I used a Manfrotto tripod and shutter release to ensure no camera movement. Then I took bracketed shots constantly until I lost all light. 🙂 In the end I used 5 exposures and merged to an HDR.

How I Got This Shot: Once you arrive at Price Lake you’ll see a sign that has information about the lake and the area. About 50-100 feet to the left of the sign you’ll find a sandy, rocky footpath that leads down to the shore. Since I was doing a long exposure shot I took my tripod and shutter release with me. I setup my tripod on several big rocks because I wanted to get the one rock that you see in the photo in frame without anything else distracting. This is only one of several beautiful spots to photograph Price Lake!

A beautiful landscape on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Blowing Rock, NC! Five minutes before I took this shot there were cows in this field. As I got setup and ready to shoot they wondered off, but I think I like the shot better this way!

How I Got This Shot: I took this shot handheld due to the location where I had to stand. I was standing on a steep slope in tall grass with a barbwire fence in front of me. Forgive me, I can’t remember the exact location of where I shot this. It’s at an intersection on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Price Lake and Moses Cone. Also, I used Lightroom to edit and crop to 16×9.
