How I Got This Shot: The restored logging railroad at Yankee Horse Ridge is a short distance from the parking area. There is plenty of room to set up a tripod which is needed because of the heavy shade.

How I Got This Shot: This is one of those “at the right place at the right time” shots. Tropical Storm Alberto was moving through and not many chances for good vistas occurred this day. We stopped at the Grandfather overlook and saw that the mountain was visible and clouds were rolling in. I had the 18-55 kit lens on but no time to change to the 28 mm, so I shot away. Very bright clouds and dark, contrasting fir trees on the peak made for a challenging exposure. I exposed for the top of the mountain with ISO 100 and a small aperture of f/18 at 1/125″ and it worked. A graduated filter (software) was required to reduce the highlights of the blown out sky.

How I Got This Shot: A short hike on the trail at the Greenstone Overlook brought me to this spot. I loved the little trail that hugged the huge boulders along the trail.
