Date Taken: 10/17/2015
Location: Table Rock Mountain
This shot was taken at the top of Table Rock Mountain with an elevation of 4,100ft. As I was standing on the edge of the cliff face in the dark, it was a bit scary with gusts of 40+ mph winds knowing I could fall off the edge with any wrong step.

Camera: 5D MKII
Lens: canon 16-35mm
Focal Length: 16mm
ISO: 3200
Shutter: 25 seconds
Aperture: 2.8
Filters: none
Exposure: manual
How I Got This Shot: I created the star burst effect in camera and then merged it with my static Milky Way selfie taken moments apart.

Date Taken: 10/23/2015
Location: Mill Shoals Falls, Balsam Grove, NC
I haven’t seen a night shot of this waterfall so it was a nice surprise to see that the north star lined up so perfectly. Many years ago my first love in photography was photographing waterfalls. As I sat watching the stars move by for several hours that night, I couldn’t help but think how I’ve come full circle with my love for photography incorporating my past with my present passion of captured the night sky.

Camera: Canon 5D MK11
Lens: Samyang 14mm
Focal Length: 14mm
ISO: 1250
Shutter: 60 seconds
Aperture: 5.6
Filters: None
Exposure: Manual
How I Got This Shot: For a long exposure image like this I use a tripod, shutter release, and lots of patience. A tripod was also good for keeping me steady as I stood on the slick rocks. I combined over 200 images in Photoshop to create this star trail. When I was setting up this image, I didn’t think I’d like the yellow street lamp above the falls, but once I took a test shot I felt it added a nice fall color to the overall image.

I captured this scene one evening as the sun was setting at Fairfield Lake.

Camera: Canon 5D MK11
Lens: Canon 24-70mm
Focal Length: 64mm
ISO: 800
Shutter: 3.2 seconds
Aperture: 8
Filters: Polarized tiffen filter
Exposure: Manual
How I Got This Shot: I was walking around the Fairfield Lake and quickly noticed all of the beautiful fall reflections in an almost still lake. I used a tripod to show my shutter down and a polarized filter. Then I just waited for the right moment as the sun was setting.
