When Given Lemons….
Make lemonade, of course, or at least try to. The weather prognosticators foretold of wet, gloomy conditions for my weekend down in North Carolina last weekend, and for once they were right on. I spent most of my time in the mountain streams with some of my favorite waterfalls, but I had to get up on the Blue Ridge Parkway for at least a little while. When I stopped by the Looking Glass Rock Overlook, I couldn’t help but notice all the bright yellow coneflowers growing everywhere. So, instead of focusing on the huge monolith and the gray sky in the background, I tried to feature those pretty golden flowers in the foreground.
Camera: Nikon D-90
Lens: NIKKOR 10–24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED
Focal Length: 13mm
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/15
Aperture: F/5.6
Filters: circular polarizer
Exposure: manual
How I Got This Shot: It was very overcast on this particular day with a slight breeze, so I set my camera up on the tripod, opened up the aperture to 5.6 and bumped the ISO to 400 so I could freeze the motion of the flowers in the foreground. I cropped the image to a panorama in post processing to minimize the sky and focus more on the foreground interest.
