About this Photograph
Date Taken: 08/08/2015
Location: Pisgah National Forest, close to Brevard, NC
I arrived here early in the morning time before the crowd come in order to have this place to myself and to capture my shots in peace, and I added the big log into the frame as a foreground element in which I believe made it more interesting.
Photographer's Message
This is a very popular waterfall in the Pisgah National Forest. I chose this waterfall because it is very accessible from the road and I knew I had to arrive very early to photograph it before the light became brighter and before people came. I framed it in this way because the big log and the V-shaped tree made for some great elements in the photo. The log actually leads the eye to the waterfall as well. I used an INDURO carbon fiber tripod with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 Ballhead for a solid platform with a shutter speed of 2sec at 20mm. I have found that the best times to photograph waterfalls is under an overcast sky. By doing this, you will obtain all even light, no hot spots anywhere.
