“Dawn’s Early Glow” Captured this very beautiful and foggy morning of July 18 2013. I arrived at one of my favorite sunrise locations on the Parkway and set up both of my cameras on tripods. I was calmed by the rolling fog as it swayed in and out. I love how it hugs the valley. The colors were soft and soothing and I knew it would make for a great image. This shot was with my longer zoom lens which really captures the colors and compresses the image.

How I Got This Shot
Very early in the morning the colors change super fast, so I always like to get set up quickly. I put both of my cameras on tripods. One with a long lens (this image I used the 70-200) and my 5DMKII has the 24-105 f4L IS lens attached. I would run back and forth between them to capture everything I could because of the changing conditions. I started to notice how the fog would roll in and out and it started to calm me and then I started to relax and enjoy it for all it was. Sometime I get so myopically focused on the “image capture” that I have to remind myself to enjoy the scene unfolding before me and experience it. It is a struggle because I am there to capture and record it but my tip to you is remember to take time to enjoy it as well!
I used my Induro and Manfrotto tripods along with cable releases for each camera. This ensure the image with be as sharp as it can and I also had mirror lockup enabled. I am careful to frame my shot so that I don’t have branches sticking into the edge of the frame if I can help it! That is a pet peeve of mine. Sometimes you cannot work around it when on the parkway unless they have just trimmed, which is not very often!
