Date Taken: 10/23/2015
Location: Mill Shoals Falls, Balsam Grove, NC
I haven’t seen a night shot of this waterfall so it was a nice surprise to see that the north star lined up so perfectly. Many years ago my first love in photography was photographing waterfalls. As I sat watching the stars move by for several hours that night, I couldn’t help but think how I’ve come full circle with my love for photography incorporating my past with my present passion of captured the night sky.
Camera: Canon 5D MK11

Aperture: 5.6

How I Got This Shot: For a long exposure image like this I use a tripod, shutter release, and lots of patience. A tripod was also good for keeping me steady as I stood on the slick rocks. I combined over 200 images in Photoshop to create this star trail. When I was setting up this image, I didn’t think I’d like the yellow street lamp above the falls, but once I took a test shot I felt it added a nice fall color to the overall image.
