Bass Lake Moses H. Cone Memorial Park Milepost 294

by The Art of Victor Ellison

"Bass Lake Moses H. Cone Memorial Park Milepost 294" by Victor Ellison Fine Art Photography

Location: Bass Lake Moses H. Cone Memorial Park Milepost 294
Captured 10/6/13 – The morning sun illuminates the rising mist as the golden light snakes through the trees at Bass Lake.

Camera: Nikon D7100
Lens: Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
Focal Length: 16mm
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/6
Aperture: f/16
Filters: None
Exposure: Manual
How I Got This Shot: The key to this photo was simply getting there early. No filters, special camera, or Photoshop tricks needed. I arrived at the lake before the sun had even risen. I got a few shots, but mostly I walked around imagining where I wanted to be when the sun DID rise. The mist was a pleasant surprise. This is where a “proper” exposure wouldn’t have had the same sort of impact. I exposed a little on the dark side to emphasize the golden mist and “fingers” stretching out across the ground, but I didn’t go so dark as to lose a lot of detail in the shadows.
