Approaching Fog At Craggy Gardens

by Deborah Scannell Photography

"Approaching Fog At Craggy Gardens" by Deborah Scannell Photography

Location: Craggy Gardens Pinnacle Trail
Fog & Clouds Roll In at Craggy Gardens – Captured Sept 27 2013. Of course, the scene changed moment by moment, as it usually does when up at Craggy from the very top! This was taken during my Sunset Workshop!

Camera: Canon 5D MKII
Lens: EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM
Focal Length: 24mm
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/25
Aperture: f/11
Filters: none
Exposure: AV
How I Got This Shot: This shot was taken during my Sunset Workshop. After a moderate walk up to the top of the Pinnacle Trail, we all arrived to a view that was simply breathtaking. My first thought was… too many clouds, even though I love clouds in a sunset, as they HOLD the color, I knew that the crepuscular rays would be shinning through, a good thing, and they were, but I wanted everyone to be able to capture the shinning sun while using a graduated neutral density filter. Well, mother nature delivers what she will and we got clouds. But I never thought we would get the burst of orange that was produced by the sun as it fell and was hidden behind the clouds. The orange and tangerine infused the clouds below it and truly made for quite a sight. If you are interested in seeing more you can visit my facebook page for other images from the night!

For this particular image I was positioned within the rock wall area and simply shot south. You can see the color starting to emerge and the thick dense fog off to camera left. This fog rolled in as the sun was saying its last goodbye and then within one minute blanketed the entire area. Getting down and driving home was interesting!
