How I Got This Shot: After hiking up to the very top and taking a few minutes to soak it all in, I planted my tripod and mounted my camera and this was one of my first shots. I loved the flowers in the foreground and the shadows that were caused by clouds and ridges. The sun was due to set off to camera right, but that was still an hour away. So I shot the surrounding scenes which seemed to change every few minutes. This is the view looking toward Burnett Reservoir.
I composed this shot and then set up my camera to bracket a series of images at different exposures, to ensure that I would capture the entire tonal range. The wind was light in this moment so I took advantage of it and knew it would not be a problem later in post when I merged them into one final image. I always take that into consideration when I bracket shots if I am outside. So this image was merged using Photomatix to blend only then brought back into PS to hand blend specific areas and fine tune the exposure and tonal range. Then it was reimported back into lightroom and finished off in LR5.
