I knew that the rain would taper off by noon, so I traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway in search of interesting “after the storm” scenes. Price Lake was exactly what I wanted. The water was perfectly still reflecting the fading storm clouds. Grandfather Mountain can just be seen in the distance before it was completely engulfed in fog.

How I Got This Shot
I knew exposure would be difficult with this scene because the sky was so bright. In order to get both the land and sky properly exposed, I captured 5 exposures, each 2 stops apart. A tripod is a must. When I got home, I combined them into a single exposure when Photomatix, and converted it to monochrome in Lightroom.
To get the really strong reflections, I used my Marumi Circular Polarizer. Normally, we use this filter to remove reflections, but it also works well for IMPROVING reflections. I simply rotated the filter until the reflections were strongest.
