Lodging on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Finding lodging on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a little different than looking for places to stay for other vacation trips.  It is a peculiar road in that it covers remote mountain tops and rural farmland, purposefully staying away from even the sight of urban areas, restaurants, and the like.

Unlike the interstate highway system we have all become accustomed to, there are no billboards or signs of any type along the Parkway which can help you find a bed.  The Park Service implements what is called a “viewshed” which prohibits signs often within a thousand feet of the road itself.  So you need to plan ahead.

See our Featured Lodging section for some of our favorite places to stay.

The Park Service built a few lodging facilities on Parkway land along the route. Most of these facilities are now run by private companies with a specialty in the hospitality industry.  Other options include . . .

Cabins – There are lots of mountain cabins available which are situated in beautiful areas with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Bed & Breakfasts – Innkeepers throughout North Carolina and Virginia love to not only provide you with a home-like atmosphere, but are glad to show you around the area and provide that extra level of service to make your trip a success.  Check out How To Find A Great Blue Ridge Parkway Bed and Breakfast.

Hotels – There are a number of hotels to choose from, many of them located around the two urban areas through which the Parkway passes – Roanoke and Asheville.  You will find options from the small and quaint to the grandiose and elegant.  We’ve written an article on How To Find A Great Blue Ridge Parkway Hotel.

Campgrounds – There are many campgrounds on Parkway land itself for tent camping and private facilities for those driving campers cross-country.
