Location: Raven’s Roost Overlook, Milepost 10.7
One of the most iconic trees along the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Raven’s Roost overlook. This is a long exposure (20 seconds) to create the soft texture in the sky.
Camera: Canon 5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
ISO: 100
Aperture: f/14
Shutter: 20 seconds
Exposure: Bulb
Focal Length: 24mm
Filters: circular polarizer, 10-stop neutral density
How I Got This Shot
I used a 10-stop neutral density filter to attenuate the light and allow a long exposure (10s of seconds) despite it being the middle of the day. The resulting movement of the clouds during the exposure creating the soft texture which I wanted to contrast the rocks below. Needless to say, having a good solid tripod was essential.
