Location: Black Balsam Knob. Pisgah National Forest, NC
On Saturday I set out to summit Black Balsam Knob (6,214ft) in Pisgah National Forest. This was one of the only pictures I took before I made my final ascent due to a few reasons; the whole mountain had a thick layer of ice over it and I had no crampons, only my two trekking poles, visibility was extremely poor, and the winds were so strong that they nearly threw me down and blew me off the mountain several times. Being out of my comfort zone and in this kind of climate miles away from the nearest person was such an exhilarating experience! It was a hike that I will remember for the rest of my life.
