Captured 10/6/13 – The morning sun illuminates the rising mist as the golden light snakes through the trees at Bass Lake.

How I Got This Shot: The key to this photo was simply getting there early. No filters, special camera, or Photoshop tricks needed. I arrived at the lake before the sun had even risen. I got a few shots, but mostly I walked around imagining where I wanted to be when the sun DID rise. The mist was a pleasant surprise. This is where a “proper” exposure wouldn’t have had the same sort of impact. I exposed a little on the dark side to emphasize the golden mist and “fingers” stretching out across the ground, but I didn’t go so dark as to lose a lot of detail in the shadows.
